Year in Review: Art Projects I loved!
Well, the year that would never end is finally coming to a close, and while it was far from great, I have a lot to be happy about. Especially when it comes to work! Here are some of my favorite projects this year, personally and professionally:
Professional Projects that Rocked 2020
Health Magazine, Body Positivity Package
We stuffed these empowering articles with beautiful animations and designs. The end result was nominated for a Webby!
The Launch of Daily Paws
Our team launched a fresh new brand, Daily Paws. This was a huge effort on everyone involved, and I love the way it turned out. Adorable pet illustrations all day please!
Instagram Face Filters, Southern Living and Travel & Leisure
These two projects were a blast to work on, partly because I had to learn a new skill- AR design!
Real Simple, Mindfulness Package
Another beautiful series with the team- full of how-to animations and peaceful imagery. Keep an eye out for my illustration on this in the Feb issue of the magazine!
Beauty and Holiday shoots for Hello Giggles
Always excited to jump on set, I was able to offer my services to the Hello Giggles team to style and produce a few shoots this year!
Special thanks to our amazing design team at Meredith on all of these projects! CD: Rebecca Hart, Jesse Blanner AD: Julia Bohan, Jenna Brillhart DESIGN: Emma Davick, Yeji Kim PHOTO: Jasmine Purdie
Personal Projects I loved in 2020
The Lunch Project
For nearly everyday in 2020, I shot and styled my lunch. This project was an easy way to build my photography, styling, and editing skills into my day.
Masters, Re-imagined
I had fun calling upon my imagination to re-illustrate the masters for 2020 covid.
Art for Good
Early on in the pandemic, I decided to devote my art to raising awareness for various causes and current events including hunger relief, BLM, and conservation. I also limited my color story more than I ever have before, and really enjoyed the end product almost as much as I liked giving back!
The Launch of Nice Newsletter
Probably one of the largest undertakings of the year, I launched a newsletter full of articles from friends on all things food, fitness, and life in 2020. This required organizing the talent, building a brand and a site, and all the parts in between!
Building my Photography Portfolio and learning Lightroom
I set out this year determined to shoot more studio work on my own, outside of work, and I did just that by building one in our apartment. I also taught myself Lightroom, getting into color grading and finding my own voice in this medium.
Instagram Marketing
I design for social media professionally everyday, but this year I decided to take a class in the backend of it. This allowed me to better understand what my editors are working on, as well as see my own work in a new light.
#ArtinIsolation, Opposites Attract
Isolating is a bummer, so I decided to use the time by shooting something completely opposite to my aesthetic each day. I learned a lot, and even found an appreciation for the types of art I normally dislike, like black and white portraiture and colorful key lights.
Redesigned My Website
I also decided to give my site a face lift this year! Fresh work, new layout, and an updated creative blog!
This year was a crazy creative ride for me, and I grew a lot. Thanks for all of your support during this wild/uncertain/sad/beautiful year. See you in 2021!!!
