The Film Project
Every New Years, my husband and I sit down and hash out our personal goals for the year. Past goals have included projects like the Noumenal Space gallery, launching Nice Newsletter, and mastering new skills with resolutions like photographing my lunch each day and animating my marathon training. It's one of my favorite rituals and I plan my year carefully around these goals, ticking off my list week by week until I've achieved what I set out to do.
This past year, I threw myself at these projects and grew a lot. This year, I'm ready to do the same, but with a new focus and a single project: the moving image.
Growing a creative skillset beyond your profession takes years, and I've carefully chipped away at design, illustration, animation, and photography. Now, I'm ready for a new medium. Instead of splintering across a variety of short term projects, this year I will be focusing on creating a single film.
Now, aside from a few required film classes in art school, I know nothing about what I'm about to do- but that's the fun part! I'll figure it out as I go, teaching myself everything from scripting to color grading. Hopefully, by the end of 2021, I'll have a short, stomach-able film and a handful of new skills in my portfolio.
The future of design is in the moving image, and I intend to be there! Let's jump in head first. I'll be sure to update you frequently on the journey so you can learn along with me. First up on my list: storyboarding, scripting, and pre-production. Better get to it!
